The
media Campaign launch was done concurrently with a monthly leadership
Development breakfast videoconference attended by the media and Leaders
from Public and the Private Sector.
Mr.
Senkondo explained that the TGDLC is a capacity building sub-component
under the Public Service Reform Programme (PSRP) and a member of the Global
Development Learning Network (GDLN), a worldwide partnership of over 120
Distance Learning Centers (DLCs). Its unique facilities offer the opportunity
for on-time and cost-effective information exchange, knowledge sharing,
coordination, consultation, training, and dialogues to organizations,
groups, teams and individuals that work to contribute to sustainable development
and the reduction of poverty in thedeveloping world.
He
mentioned that through Distance Learning Centers (DLCs) affiliated with
GDLN it is possible to bring together development practitioners and experts
at an unprecedented level - to share their experiences and learn from
each other as they design and implement ambitious reform and change programs
in their countries.
By
eliminating the need for experts and practitioners to travel, training
or other forms of knowledge exchange do not need to be delivered in a
concentrated period of time. This gives more time and flexibility for
participants to read more background material; prepare real, rather than
simulated assignments related to their actual work; and to learn with
their own (local) colleagues as a team. By doing so, GDLN delivered activities:
• shorten delivery times for training or critical input from knowledgeable
sources;
• reduce the cost of knowledge exchange or training since no one
is required to gather together from long distances;
• enhance the impact of training & knowledge exchange activities
since participants can be accompanied for longer spells of time, while
at the workplace.
TGDLC
services are categorised into the following :
• Videoconference
courses, dialogues, meetings and teleconferences
• Videoconference facility hire for meetings, training, interviews
and consultations
• Multimedia facility hire for computer based training, meetings
and workshops
• Online consultations
• Access to development information through the multi-partner Tanzania
Development Information Centre (www.tdic.or.tz)
Mr Senkondo
mentioned the benefits of using TGDLC as follows:
• Cost-effective
interactive learning activities for development practitioners throughout
the developing world, reaching across geographic borders, time zones,
and language barriers.
• Improved decision-making through interactive learning that is
based on real-life experience shared by experts, practitioners, and decision
makers.
• Regular exchanges among practitioners and experts across countries
and regions, in a way hitherto restricted by the need for extensive travel
and costs.
• Opportunity for real-time delivery of cutting-edge knowledge to
the development community on current issues, through virtual face-to-face
events and activities.
The Leadership
Development breakfast video conference is among the events that will bring
together people in Leadership position on a monthly basis to share good
practices and latest knowledge on leadership at TGDLC as part of the campaign.
